I found WindowSwap<\/a> while wandering around Cloudhiker<\/a>, and it immediately reminded me why I like the weird little corners of the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The idea is almost ridiculously simple. You open the site and get a view from someone else’s window somewhere in the world. There is usually some sound too. Birds, traffic, rain, people going about their day. It was created by Sonali Ranjit and Vaishnav Balasubramaniam during the 2020 lockdown, when they were stuck looking at the same view themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What caught me was how little the website tries to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no giant homepage trying to explain itself. No endless list of things to click. No feeling that I need to keep scrolling because something important might appear underneath the next section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is just a window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then another one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That simplicity made me think about how different building for the web can feel when you are not starting with a business plan, a content strategy or a list of things you need people to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Someone had an idea that was basically, “What if you could look out of somebody else’s window?” Then they built it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think I stayed with it because there was something oddly personal about seeing ordinary places instead of impressive ones. A road. A few buildings. Some trees moving in the wind. A quiet street. Nothing that would normally be considered content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That is probably the part that stayed with me most. The website takes something completely ordinary and gives it a small reason to exist on the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also made me think about all the websites I have wanted to build over the years. I sometimes make the idea too complicated before I even start. More pages, more features, more things to add.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WindowSwap is a nice reminder that a website does not always need to be a machine that does twenty things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes one good idea is enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I came away from it wanting to make something again. Not because I suddenly had some huge project in mind, but because I remembered that feeling of putting one small idea on a webpage and seeing what happens.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
