I sometimes wonder what happens to a website when almost nobody visits it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I don’t mean a website that was once popular and then disappeared. I mean one that was quietly built by someone, published, and mostly ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe they spent a few weeks on it. They picked a domain name, made the pages, changed the design a dozen times, fixed things that nobody else would ever notice, and eventually decided it was ready.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then they published it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And almost nobody came.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I think about this because I keep making websites. Some are useful. Some are experiments. Some are just things I wanted to build because I was curious about whether I could.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And some probably won’t be seen by many people at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That used to feel like a problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The internet has made it very easy to measure whether something is getting attention. You can see visitors, views, clicks and all the other numbers almost immediately. It doesn’t take long before you start thinking about the numbers while you’re making the thing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Will anyone read this?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Will anyone find it?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Was it worth spending all that time on something that only a handful of people might see?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I don’t think attention is a bad thing. Obviously it feels good when someone finds something you made and spends time with it. There is something nice about knowing a stranger stopped for a moment and cared enough to look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I also wonder whether we’ve started expecting everything we make to prove that it deserves to exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A small website can sit online for years without doing much of anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No audience. No comments. No viral moment. Just a domain that renews every year and a few pages sitting there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And yet someone made it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Someone had an idea and gave it a place to exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe that’s enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Or maybe that is just something people who make things with very few visitors tell themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I don’t know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There are probably websites nobody visits anymore that are still worth keeping. There are probably others that really were pointless and forgotten for good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But I like the thought that a website doesn’t become meaningful only after enough people arrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maybe there is some value in making a thing simply because you wanted the thing to exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I keep coming back to that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
